Please note: This is a part-time (25 hours per week) two-year fixed-term contract.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Fitness Centre Manager, the Zone Coordinator supports the daily, safe, and efficient operation of the Zone Fitness Centre, contributing directly to Brock University’s commitment to health and wellness for students, faculty, and the community. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a welcoming, customer-focused environment, ensuring all policies and procedures are upheld, and providing leadership during evenings, weekends, holidays, and in the absence of full-time staff.

The Zone Coordinator will:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Zone Fitness Centre, ensuring a clean, safe, and friendly environment;
  • Make operational decisions during shift coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays;
  • Manage emergency procedures and incidents as required, collaborating with Walker Sports Complex staff;
  • Monitor maintenance and cleanliness of the Zone and fitness equipment, including inventory management;
  • Liaise with suppliers and maintenance companies for repairs and equipment needs;
  • Train staff on safe equipment use and cleaning protocols;
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging fitness centre environment;
  • Address member questions, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally;
  • Oversee part-time and student staff to ensure adherence to all safety guidelines, policies, and procedures;
  • Assist with staff scheduling, shift coverage, and mentoring;
  • Maintain accurate records of staff training, ensuring completion of required University and departmental modules;
  • Assist with year-round delivery of fitness programming for students and community members;
  • Support Fitness Centre Manager in researching and implementing new programs;
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance participation and revenue streams.

Please note: Morning, evening and weekend work is required for this position.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma (e.g., Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Management, Business Administration, Fitness/Health Promotion, Fitness Operations). The equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered;
  • First Aid & CPR and AED;
  • Certified Personal Trainer;
  • Previous experience working in a fitness, recreation or athletic facility;
  • Experience as a certified trainer or in group fitness;
  • Familiarity with fitness centre equipment, operations, and maintenance procedures;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills;
  • Committed to upholding safety standards;
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade I, Salary Scale ($52,093-$84,476);
  • Target Salary $52,093, pro-rated to reflect part-time hours;
  • This is a part-time time two-year fixed-term contract.
  • The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
