About the role
- We are looking for a talented Research Associate to join us working on an exciting project supervised by Dr Stephen McAdoo and Dr Maria Prendecki, based in the Centre for Inflammatory Disease, Department of Immunology and Inflammation, at Imperial College London’s Hammersmith Campus.
- You will join a project investigating disease mechanisms and potential treatment targets for ANCA-associated vasculitis, a rare autoimmune disease characterised by necrotizing inflammation of small blood vessels and multiorgan dysfunction.
What you would be doing
- You will be responsible for delivering a translational research project that includes in vitro, in vivo, and clinical research components. You will investigate novel biomarkers and treatment targets by (i) analysis of clinical samples (serum, urine) and kidney biopsy tissue (using immunohistochemistry and spatial transcriptomic techniques); (ii) perform in vivo studies (in mice and rats) using both genetic and pharmacologic manipulation; (iii) investigate novel targets in vitro, specifically in neutrophils and endothelial cells, using a broad range of cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
- You will contribute to supervision of junior researchers and post-graduate degree candidates and, as part of your development, you will attend relevant workshops, local research seminars and lab meetings, national and international scientific meetings to present you work, and you will develop contacts within the College and the wider community.
What we are looking for
- You should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in immunology or a closely related discipline. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.
- You should have experience in a research laboratory, and have skills in cell culture, flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, advanced microscopy and imaging, and in conducting in vivo studies. Experience of working in a clinical environment and in handling patient-derived samples is beneficial, but training will be provided
What we can offer you
- The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading research institution
- The opportunity to link basic laboratory science with translational clinical science and to patient outcomes
- The opportunity to attend national and international scientific meetings, to present and learn from others, and to develop a wider research network of international academics
- Grow your career: develop your CV and research career beyond this post-doctoral position through access to Imperial’s sector-leading dedicated career support for researchers, as well as opportunities for promotion and progression.
- Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing
- Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes).
