Description:

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) for a one (1) year appointment to design and lead research projects in the area of women’s brain health, aging, and dementia. Specifically, the program will focus on the effects of early life ovarian removal on cognition, brain, and inflammation.

Key Duties:

The Research Associate will design and lead data analysis pertaining to a cohort of younger women at increased risk of late-life Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Designing, planning and executing large and small data base analyses
  • Designing appropriate statistics for analysis using experience with very mixed methods and women’s brain health
  • Reading published papers relevant to the studies being analysed and adapting procedures accordingly
  • Liaising with collaborators and assisting in the compilation, analysis and reporting of research findings to researchers within and outside of the program
  • Assisting with preparing manuscripts for submission to peer review publications/journals
  • Assisting with research proposals to be submitted to granting agencies

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of postdoctoral/research associate experience with demonstrated academic and research expertise in the field of cognition, brain imaging, endocrinology, risk (APOE4, estradiol loss) and resilience factors (education, bilingualism).
  • Extensive experience working with large and small data bases, brain images obtained via MRI, and neuropsychological data using sophisticated statistical analysis and AI is critical.
  • Experience leading an interdisciplinary team, liaising with collaborators, and supervising trainees is also critical.
  • Experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer review publications/journals and assisting with preparing research proposals to be submitted to granting agencies.
  • Experience presenting findings at meetings and conferences.
  • Experience designing, planning and executing experiments and research.

Skills: Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required. Must be able to work positively with others and mentor trainees in a large collaborative laboratory.

Other: The successful candidate may be expected to participate in research supervision of two or more students or other trainees. At all times, this individual will be expected to support the overall research and training missions of the lab.
