About the role
A Research Associate is required to work in the Endocrinology Section of the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction based at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus. The post is funded by the MRC to work within a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of Dr Bryn Owen. The post has a broad remit but will primarily focus on investigating the effects of undernutrition on the mechanisms that control female fertility. The laboratory and research team form a diverse and welcoming environment, and the post holder will be encouraged and supported to publish and present their work and to carry out career development activities.
What you would be doing
The post holder will assist with directing the work of small research teams and take the initiative in the planning and execution of research studies, while identifying and developing suitable techniques and apparatus for the collection and analysis of data. The post holder will ensure the validity and reliability of data and maintain accurate and complete records of findings, with which they will write reports for submission to research sponsors.
What we are looking for
Applicants must have postdoctoral experience of neuroscience research including in vivo optogenetics, chemo genetics or fibre photometry in the context of the UK Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act.
Applicants must have a PhD relevant to Energy Homeostasis, fertility, Obesity, Metabolic Disease, Nutrient Sensing, Neuroendocrinology, Neuroscience or a related subject. Candidates who have not yet been awarded their PhD but have sat the Viva will be considered. Practical experience within a research environment and / or publication in relevant and refereed journals are essential. Experience in teaching and training of students, in particular for in vivo studies governed specifically by the UK Animals (scientific procedures) Act, is also essential. The post holder will be required to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
